In Memoriam

with No Comments

As you may already know, Purpleheart Art, Vermont gives a portion of yearly proceeds to two charities: my local Rutland County Humane Society, and Operation Homefront.

Growing up on a horse farm featuring lots of remarkable animals in addition to horses, I have always had a love for animals.  The farm was started by my paternal grandparents.  My grandfather was a Veteran of World War II.  While he did not die serving our country, many of his friends did, including some who saved his life.  While I never had the chance to know my grandfather, he is an inspiration to me and many of the patriotic pieces of art I create are dedicated to his memory.

This is an acrylic painting on recycled slate (a shingle from my Victorian-era home).  It’s not for sale at my Etsy store, but that’s only because I don’t think it would ever survive the shipping process!  These following items, however, are always for sale at Purpleheart Art, Vermont on Etsy:

At only 5 dollars a piece, they’re a steal! Here’s the listing on Etsy, for the Red, White, and Blue ornaments.  And here’s a listing for the “Purpleheart”, Beige ornaments. Each one is handmade and hand painted salt dough in acrylic. Incidentally, the yarn used as their hanger is also made in America!

However you spend this Memorial Day, please be sure to take a moment to remember the brave men and women who gave their lives to make ours better, everyday.
